Ambivalence
Today, the media content we consume influences our perceptions of ourselves and others. It also provides numerous interpretations of what is beautiful, sexy, attractive, and appropriate. In addition, it has been said that the impact of social media through the usage of likes, fans, comments, postings, including the selfie phenomenon promotes a false sense of self and self-esteem, particularly among young people.
Inspired by the effect of social media, Ambivalence exhibition invites you to look into your inner self through the numerous female portrait paintings whose faces are concealed behind the filters. The artist, SammyN, encourages you to ignite your imagination by asking questions through these vibrant paintings:
“What’s behind all of these ladies’ filters? Secrets, desires, or dreams?”.
SammyN’s use of filters in paintings connected viewers to the modern-day habit of “Selfie,” which many people engage in every day. He also urges the viewers to rethink about themselves, “Who are you truly behind the filter?” He also hopes to inspire the audience to embrace their own individuality. Abstract and pop art movements influence SammyN’s vibrant and energetic artworks. You’ll be mesmerized by his use of a wide range of innovative techniques, including negative space juxtaposition, color and monochrome, geometric patterns, and intricate details.
