The newest addition to the contemporary floor at River City Bangkok opens Wednesday, 1 July 2020.
Coming out of the government’s lockdown measures, River City Bangkok re-opened with our new immersive exhibition VAN GOGH: LIFE AND ART. Social distancing strictly imposed, the exhibition has been a magnet for art lovers of all ages and backgrounds. If we have learnt anything during the two plus months of lockdown, it’s our interest for cooking, writing, knitting, or painting. COVID-19 seems to have awakened our desire to create… the artist within, passion we did not realize we had. Responding to the growing community interest, River City Bangkok is pleased to announce the newest member of the contemporary art floor: a co-creation, co-art space for artists experienced and novice, young and old. Introducing CREATE Artist Studio.
If you’re an artist but don’t have space for an easel at home, think of CREATE as a co-working space. If your doodling is looking more and more like art, but you want to learn more about sketching, water-colour, still-life, landscapes, or portraiture painting, or photography, join one of the many lessons from teachers and celebrity artists. In need of a canvas, new brushes, and paints? A full range of artist supplies are on sale.
CREATE Artist Studio is led by Andrew Clark and the team of Smiling Albino, the travel company known for its exceptionally curated excursions throughout the Mekong. Art teachers bring to the class the most picturesque landscapes, and fascinating towns and villages, and amazing people, guiding you through techniques that will awaken the artist within. There are also classes outside the studio, in the small streets of Bangkok’s Creative District, riverside areas of Chinatown, and green pockets of Klongsan and Portuguese community of Kudijeen.
“One of our favorite neighborhoods is Talad Noi – narrow sois running from Charoenkrung Road to the Chao Phraya River. Lanes lined with shophouses where traders cook and work on car parts, buildings built in Chinese style, pocket parks filled with 100-year-old trees. Taking the class into areas of old Bangkok to draw, paint or photograph is an experience even the most experienced artist dreamof”
CREATE Artist Studio opens on Wednesday, 1 July 2020, but is taking bookings for classes right now. Each workshop limited number of participants at 4-10 seats only to ensure personalised teaching and social distancing. All art supplies are included in the price of the class. For non-Thai speakers, classes will be conducted in by English speaking teachers and others in Thai with a translator into English.
