RIVER CITY BANGKOK
On his trips to Europe in the 1980’s, the antique markets of Paris intrigued Mr. Adisorn Charanachitta, CEO of ItalThai Group. How wonderful it would be, he imagined, to have an antique center on the banks for the Chao Phraya River. And so, in 1985 River City Bangkok was born. Today, River City Bangkok is Asia’s premier center for arts and antiques with four floors of galleries filled with the treasures of the East, a magnet for collectors, traders and art-lovers from Thailand and the world over.
3rd and 4th Floors – antiques and RCB Auction
The upper floors of River City Bangkok are dedicated to antique traders, some of whom have been situated at River City Bangkok since 1985. Each has their own specialty and can speak with authority about the items in which they trade.
RCB Auctions started on July 26, 1985, with Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously presiding over the grand opening of the auction house. By 2018, RCB Auctions had put 90,000 items under the hammer. Auctions are held in Thai and English so that everyone can learn and appreciate historical and cultural heritage of Thailand and other countries.
2nd Floor – contemporary art
In 2018, River City Bangkok began to transform the 2nd floor. Visit the 2nd floor today and you will find exhibition and commercial galleries dedicated to contemporary are in all its forms: paintings, photography, sculpture, multimedia projection and sound, illustrations and film from Thailand and abroad. There are also studios offering classes to people of all ages in painting and music.
1st Floor – Artery Galleries, Riverfront Dining and Retail
On the ground floor visitors can arrive by shuttle boat, by car and public transport, or on foot. At the main entrance is The Gallery Shop where you will find art and antique books, exhibition merchandise and ticket counter. RCB Artery, the black and white tiled four-story void becomes a stage for performance and special events. Café’s, bars and restaurants line the riverfront. You will also find traders in collectibles of many genre.
