RCB Film Club: Cloud Cuckoo Country
RCB Film Club, in collaboration with AORTA, proudly presents “Cloud Cuckoo Country”, a film that revisits the reunion of a young couple after a decade of separation due to political differences. It poses the question to the audience: “Can you love someone whose political views differ from yours?”
Spanning 48 minutes, set against the backdrop of an empty Bangkok, this short film takes viewers on a journey through Thai politics and history, intertwined with the encounters of a former couple with divergent political views. It revolves around a conservationist woman (played by Nantanat Thakudkul) on the brink of marriage to her long-time love, and a lesbian journalist (played by Chayatanus Saradatta) – her former lover, who embodies the secrets she has kept hidden in her heart. After more than a decade, their encounter unfolds, yet many things remain unchanged, leading to dialogues filled with conflict, tension, and ultimately unraveling the secrets of their past relationship – why they parted ways so irreversibly.
Directed by Aim-ei Polpitak, a highly skilled filmmaker whose works have been selected to screen at numerous film festivals, including the Osaka Asian Film Festival 2022, KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival 2022, NYC Indie Film Festival 2022, and Liberty International Film Festival 2022, as well as the Bangkok Cultural Center in 2022. Additionally, the film has received positive reviews from numerous critics.
