KACHA
Persian Carpet Private Collection and Piano Concerto Finest Piano
Glimmering with a lambent light that descends in a fine mist from latticed chandeliers and light fixtures to be refracted off the gilded finishings of art deco furniture and cupid sculptures, and ultimately converge, as rainfall courses into a great river, upon antique grand pianos and sumptuous Persian carpets, KACHA’s second store, installed on the fourth floor of River City Bangkok, is a feast for the senses.
Founder Kachacharn Dhammasarn’s journey in the antiques trade began 8 years ago. At the invitation of a friend, he opened a Thai antiques shop in Chatuchak market, before relocating to our riverside venue, where his two stores are now bustling portals for the distribution of pieces gathered from across Europe and Asia. Dhammasarn is a seasoned collector, who has retained the candid love and enthusiasm for antiques collecting of one new to the field; he makes acquisitions following the compass needle of his intuition for beauty, sumptuousness and artistry, which tends to swing for French art deco furnishings, marble engravings, Persian carpets and antique pianos.
The pianos in his inventory once belonged in the private collection of an elderly Thai pianist, who has since handed the reins of their custodianship to Dhammasarn. Some a century and a half old, these pianos have all been restored to perfect condition by specialists in America.
The Persian carpets descend from a craft that originated over 2,500 years ago among nomadic communities in Iran. Persian carpets became quickly and indelibly renowned for their quality and craftsmanship, their association with luxury and decadence remarked upon since the time of the Ancient Greeks, by writers such as Xenophon. Dhammasarn’s collection comprises only the finest of these carpets, which are made from a combination of silk and Kork wool, shaven from the shoulders and under-belly of lambs, where the wool is softest. Coveted for their durability, lavish colors, exquisite patterns and tableau-like designs– a King vanquishes a lion, framed by a circle of warriors on horseback in the throes of a hunt, on a luscious, beige carpet in Dhammasarn’s store– Persian carpets are an investment in timeless beauty and quality that will last through the generations.
KACHA’s second establishment on the fourth floor of River City Bangkok is a magnificent counterpart to their headquarters on the first floor, neither one of which should be missed on your visit to our beautiful institution.
