Deep in Mind Sea
Mackcha or Chararat (Macky) Saraaporn’s “dramatis personae”– the protagonist of her creative universe– is “Chalotte”, a young lass iterated across a series of artworks, like an ever-growing fractal of lines, colors and faces. Each of the portraits in her solo exhibition, “Deep in Mind Sea”, is imbued with a powerful emotional profile that fascinates without end.
Chalotte is Mackcha’s fictional counterpart, derived from the multidimensionality of her personhood. Typically styled in blue and white and accessorized with mascots from marine ecosystems– among them crabs, sharks, dugongs and sea urchins– Chalotte is a child of the sea, who feels a deep affinity for underwater life. However, Chalotte’s aesthetic tropes enfold more than meets the eye: beneath the surface of her charming aquatic theme lies the oceanic depths of Mackcha’s interiority, which the viewer’s careful attention will illuminate, like a shaft of light that makes visible the mysterious contours of the seafloor.
Open 14th January – 28th February 2023 at Galleria 4, 2nd floor.
