The Tail Stories

Every story has multiple dimensions, such as Siamese Fighting Fish, also known as Betta, a gorgeous, tiny fish with vibrantly colored and wavering tails. Although their appearances seem to be delicate and vulnerable, the Siamese Fighting Fish is an aquatic animal with a fighter mentality that has led to “Fish-Fighting Game” for centuries. Furthermore, the income from their exports supports the Thai agricultural economy around thousands of millions of baht per year. In 2019, they were chosen as Thailand’s national aquatic animal, alongside elephants.

‘The Tail Stories’, a photography exhibition that immerses viewers into a multidimensional story of Siamese Fighting Fish that few people are aware of. Patchara Aunsangchan is a photographer who has been fascinated by the colors and movements of Siamese Fighting Fish. He devoted years to capturing the action and emotion of Siamese Fighting through his lens. Patchara’s working approach is very unique. He spent days and nights with the fish until they became acquainted with him and disclosed their true natures to him.

Patchara’s photographs were chosen by Thailand Post to be a stamp collection. They were also featured in a photography book named “Siamese Fighting Fish: The National Aquatic Animal” published by the Department of Fisheries which had inspired designs of gorgeous scarves.
