A Taste of Hiroko’s Tranquility
The Japanese tea ceremony “Chado” or “Sado” (茶道) means “The Way of Tea”. The tradition of preparing and drinking tea is a form of art and a spiritual practice. Each movement is performed deliberately with meticulous attention to detail – from how you enters the tea room, how and where you sit, your bow, and how you drink and eat.
Hiroko Hongyok’s intension for “The Dance in Between” exhibition, was to create a quiet space for visitors to contemplate the Japanese concept of “Ma” which is defined as “the space between objects, the silence between sounds, the stillness between actions. A tea ceremony is the perfect opportunity for visitors to appreciate “Ma”, so often overlooked in our lives.
The Japanese tea ceremony will be performed by a Japanese Omotosenke Tea Ceremony Professor, Souka Ueoka (Tomoko).
