Around the world, the month of June is celebrated with a rainbow flag. ’PRIDE’ is the promotion of the self-affirmation, dignity, equality, and increased visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people as a social group.

The Stonewall riots were a series of spontaneous demonstrations by members of the gay community in response to a police raid that began in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969. The Stonewall sparked campaigns around the world, its anniversary celebrated to this day. Since then, anti-discrimination legislation has been introduced by governments in many countries to recognise and protect the rights of LGBTQI people.
