Love and Blessing

February is a doubly festive month with Chinese New Year on the 12th and Valentine’s Day on the 14th. River City Bangkok is pleased to celebrate this special month with ‘Love and Blessing’ installations designed by the internationally-known Thai artist, Phannapast “Yoon” Taychamaythakool whose solo exhibition Venus in the Shell is continuing on the 2nd floor of River City Bangkok throughout February.

The ‘Love and Blessing’ installations draw upon some of the favourite characters from Venus in the Shell exhibition to reveal the secret of being happy in this festive season.

Companion
Inspired by Greek gods and goddesses – Pisces, Libra, Cancer and Taurus are dressed in oriental costume. They are talking and playing together. They could be friends, siblings, mother and daughter, partners, or lovers. It does not matter.
Life could be good if you have a companion to share with.
Who is your companion?

CNY
At the main entrance, the character’s form the letters C, N and Y to welcome you to River City Bangkok. Normally, CNY is for Chinese New Year, but the vivid images of warriors posing in different postures open for your interpretation. In Phannapast’s interpretation, C is for Charm, N is for Now, and Y is for Young Heart. Phannapast encourages you to embrace this month with a young heart, being the most charming and best version of you.
What about you? What does C N Y stand for?

The Butterflies
Adorning The Gallery Shop you will find a group of colourful butterflies representing hopes and dreams. In 2020, we got used to being locked-up. In 2021, let your hope, dreams, and imagination fly free: beautifully, colourfully, and courageously like these butterflies.

True Colour
In the RCB Artery, Phannaphast has created banners of vermillion-purple, very different from the colours typical of these festivals. Like the hidden message from the Venus in the Shell exhibition, Phannapast would like to empower visitors to embrace and cherish their own identity rather than following the rules and standards of the society.
Let’s explore inside your mind. What is your true colour?
