Vanishing Bangkok

British photographer Ben Davies takes us on a stunning personal journey through the forgotten back streets and hidden neighbourhoods of Bangkok revealing the fragile beauty and faded charm of Thailand’s capital city that are disappearing fast beneath a tidal wave of development.

Shot over a five-year period mainly using a large format Linhof film camera, the 36 exquisite black and white photographs fuse light and texture to reveal a unique perspective on the fast-changing metropolis. “I wanted to open people’s eyes to an aspect of the city that perhaps they never knew,” Davies writes. “I wanted to capture the magic of this older Bangkok before it vanishes forever.”

A decade from now, many of the scenes that Davies has photographed will be only a memory. Davies’ remarkable series of images is included in a photographic book entitled ‘Vanishing Bangkok: The Changing Face of the City’ available here.
