When a fashion photographer reinterprets Van Gogh’s artwork to a modern context

For 30 June, Eugenio Recuenco pays homage to Vincent van Gogh, one of the most-loved artists by the public and, its seems the creator of 365 himself. Recuenco has reinterpreted ‘The Siesta’ by Van Gogh into the modern context. A well-dressed couple was escape to daydream among the stack of shredded office documents.

Interestingly, Van Gogh’s painting from 1890 was a reinterpretation of ‘La Méridienne’(1866) by Francois Millet, a French artist that he admired. The Dutch painter created this painting in autumn when he was staying in the Saint Paul Asylum.

Not able to paint outside because of the bad weather, Van Gogh spent his time in reinterpreting the paintings of his famous artists.  Vincent created the ‘The Siesta’ with his signature yellow and the blue paint, making it very different from the subdued colours of Millet’s painting.

But 30 June is not the only homage to Vincent Van Gogh… but more on that next month.
