Cocoon: Lost and Found
River City Bangkok presents “Cocoon: Lost and Found”, Parn Somnuek Klangnok’s first solo exhibition in Thailand. Klangnok or “Kru Parn”, as he is known to his students and acquaintances, has made a name for himself for his depictions of charming characters that invite viewers to commune with long-neglected joys. Though by the combined account of his circle of colleagues and friends Kru Parn is chronically forgetful, there’s one thing that the artist has never lost sight of, and that’s to find happiness in every moment of his life.
Reap simple joys that have fallen by the wayside, and seek asylum from the mayhem of the real world, in a fantastical realm inhabited by “Cocoon”, a small boy of extraterrestrial origins. Tenderly ‘cocooned’ in a blanket, he observes the world through large, elliptical eyes, parsing everything that happens before him in order to learn how to live with happiness on this earth. Kru Parn hopes that visitors will experience this exhibition as a wellspring of refreshing positivity, for he believes that even the partial palliation of our woes may be just the catalyst needed to orient us towards joy once more.
