Flying is not Scary
Some people spend a lifetime caring for others without ever calling it work. They prepare meals, wash clothes, raise children, look after their families, or remain quietly beside a loved one through moments of illness and vulnerability. These acts are repeated every day, so often that they become almost invisible, despite sustaining countless lives in ways that are rarely acknowledged.
“Flying is not Scary – บ่น่ากั๋วเต้าใด” is a solo exhibition by juli baker and summer (Chanaradee Chatkul Na Ayudhya) that traces the intimate memories shared between the artist and her grandmother, who was not only her caregiver, but also her first teacher, constant source of encouragement, and the person who gave her the confidence to explore the world. Over time, however, their relationship gradually transformed as the artist became the caregiver during her grandmother’s final years.
More than a tribute to the bond between a grandmother and granddaughter, the exhibition is an invitation to reflect on those whose quiet acts of care have shaped our own lives. Some may never have travelled far from home, yet they are the very people who gave someone else the courage to spread their wings.
“Flying is not Scary – บ่น่ากั๋วเต้าใด” will be on view from 13 August to 20 September 2026 at RCB Galleria 5, 3rd Floor, River City Bangkok. The exhibition is open daily from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
