Buri Shop
Buri Shop, founded and run by two brothers that share a passion for antiques, feels like an idyllic and enchanted grove of antique European furniture, where one could imagine catching sight of an imp or house sprite, peering out from behind fluted frames or ornate wooden legs. As a family-run business, the store retains a warmth and charm that complements the eclectic mix of antiques, ornaments and curios, sharing their close quarters like affable, mildly curious neighbors.
The brothers took their first steps in the antiques trade by auctioning vintage pieces from the American embassy, and in the following ten years, built a broad network of relationships with collectors of European antiques. For such a seasoned and well-reputed antiques business, River City Bangkok, as a longstanding hub of the Thai antiques market that draws in a diverse demographic of art and history lovers across the generations, was the perfect place to put down roots and beguile passers-by, peeking through the windows, with ceramics, an antique cello and piano, and– the brothers’ favorite– century-old, Italian alabaster lamps.
Nowadays, there’s an aura of nostalgia that envelopes any physical object that can be apprehended with the senses as the increasing digitisation of all aspects of life draws us further into the realm of virtual realities, identities, experiences and knowledge. And in a treasury of objects that proudly wear their mastery of time, that gleam with the inner radiance of history nested like a pearl within the oyster’s carapace, the sphinx-like allure of the tangible and the real becomes amplified into something truly wondrous– the kind of magic that only an antiques store like Buri Shop can offer.
