In Bloom
The first solo show by Karen artist, Sing Soe Khaing Tun, showcasing a selection of his artworks created throughout 2020 and 2021
Comprised of paintings in varying sizes, the exhibition is animated by the artist’s deep fascination with flora and its form. Articulated in acrylic, Sing’s paintings are expressions of his mood—working only when in a positive state of mind, the artist uses his internal emotions to determine the style, texture, and palette for each artwork. Through this creative process, Sing’s paintings flow with dynamism, although easily perceived as pre-planned, every piece is created in the moment, and serves as a brief window into the artist’s mind.
Created throughout the Coronavirus pandemic, In Bloom represents a reemergence from a universally dark period—the exhibition its own metaphorical flower, blooming as the world begins to see the light again.
About the artist
Sing (b.1996) grew up in Karen State in the east of Myanmar. At the age of nine, he moved to Thailand with his father to pursue a better life for the family. During his adolescence, Sing moved to Bangkok where he has lived ever since. On sunny days he has made enough money to pay for a room. On rainier days he has had to sleep on the streets.
A self-taught artist, art has been the only real consistency in life for Sing, a visual diary for his experiences, and no matter his situation he has always painted.
