Inside the Irises of Vincent van Gogh

Apart from the paintings of Sunflowers which are among his most famous, Vincent van Gogh painted a blossoming bouquet of iris flowers considered as a series of his familiar paintings.

Created in 1889, the painter committed himself to the asylum in Saint-Remy, France where he began his work on Irises in the first week of his stay and later completed 130 paintings before passing away in the following year.

The flowers were growing in a small outdoor garden where he was allowed to stroll and sit. The painting Irises eventually got alive from his brushstrokes with admiration and joy.

By peering into it closely, you will find that each petal in the painting is unique, featuring different shade, shape and size. However, only one blossom is a completely different color.

It also expresses serenity and peaceful state of mind that the nature could bring to the master during his lonesome treatment in the mental institution. He once said

“There is nothing more beautiful than nature early in the morning”

“If you truly love Nature, you will find beauty everywhere.”

Having a short getaway among the nature helps recharge your mind, body and soul especially in this challenging time. Soothing your mind with art is also recommended.
