Portrait Prize 2021

Entries for the inaugural Portrait Prize have come from across Thailand, 26 provinces in all, from artists professional, amateur, and student, male and female, Thai and foreigner, young and old. To enter the competition, each artist had to have at least one live sitting, and submit with their painting the story of their sitter.

An esteemed jury of seven members of the business community have chosen the winner of the Portrait Prize 2021 (THB500,000). RCB’s Exhibitions Team has chosen the winner of this year’s Packing Room Prize 2021 (THB200,000). You will see the paintings of both winners immediately inside the gallery.

When you visit the exhibition, please take some time to read the story of the artist’s sitter. Telling the story provides an insight into society during what has been an extremely challenging 12 months. The stories in this exhibition show the strength of character of the nation, providing inspiration to us all.

As a visitor to the exhibition, you have an important part to play. Every person visiting the exhibition is being asked to select one painting as their favourite. The painting with the most votes will be awarded the People’s Choice Prize 2021 (THB100,000) at the close of the exhibition on December 7, 2021.
