Remembering Silpa Bhirasri: 100 Years After His Arrival in Thailand
In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the arrival of Professor Corrado Feroci– better-known by his title, Professor Silpa Bhirasri– on Siamese shores, the Silpa Bhirasri Research Center, in partnership with a range of arts and cultural organizations across the public and private sectors, has organized an exhibition in homage to the priceless inheritance he has left the country.
Over his tenure at the Fine Arts Department of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Professor Bhirasri played an instrumental role in the dissemination, advancement and conservation of Thai arts and culture. To this day, his achievements remain a great blessing to generations of Thai people, though a century has passed since the advent of the “Father of Modern Art in Thailand”. Despite the full fruition of many of Professor Bhirasri’s endeavors, the continuation of many of the tangents of his modernization of Thai art are contingent upon the active stewardship of his legacy– and as the momentum behind his pioneering ideas and aspirations wanes, the conservation of his contributions becomes all the more pressing.
Open 14th January – 12th February 2023 at RCB Photographers’ Gallery 1, 2nd floor.
