The Perfect Difference
“Creating an abstract painting is a release of emotions through art. I feel like I am in conversation with it and follow my instincts.”
We are chatting with Be – Chantanee Kontoljinda, a petite woman with her large paintings inside Thank You Gallery inAIR (Artists in Residence) zone on the 3rd floor of River City Bangkok.
Her dream career
Be was a well-trained artist who graduated Bachelor and Master’s Degrees in art. If she were not an artist, she would become a veterinarian to cure sick animals and make them happy. She has 22 cats at home. By looking around her gallery, you will be impressed with her semi-abstract works that she has endeavored since she was an undergraduate in Master of Fine Arts Program in Visual Art from King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang. The year of 2014 was marked as a turning point when she started to experiment a combination between realistic and abstract art which are completely different.
She explained “I prefer imperfection and conflict that make a wonder. Creating an abstract painting is a release of emotions through art. I feel like I am in conversation with it and follow my instincts. It is like riding a rollercoaster.”
Understanding abstract art is easy
“It depends on each viewer. I don’t mind if they can understand my concept. All it requires is imagination and that’s all that counts for me.”Let your imagination run wild by peering into her semi-abstract works featured in Fresh Air exhibition from 30 October – 28 November 2021 at RCB Galleria 1 on 2nd floor of River City Bangkok.
