The Magic Hat
Pagoda the Art Club proudly presents “The Magic Hat”, the latest solo exhibition by Jang Onanong (Onanong Kaewsomboom) that will take you on a journey to discover happiness nearby, even when it may seem like it’s a world away.
This collection creatively blends the pure, innocent gaze of a young female character, unique in the artist’s work, with the iconic cartoon character ‘Mickey Mouse’. Just like many others who have found joy in this globally recognized cartoon character, Mickey Mouse is a character the artist has a special connection to since childhood. Incorporating one prominent feature of Mickey Mouse – his round ears – in her latest collection, the ‘hat’ in her work symbolizes the hidden things in our hearts or the small corners of life that bring happiness to everyone.
In today’s world, everyone has constant access to media right at their fingertips, allowing us all to stay informed about various news and stories. However, each individual’s “personal happiness” – those small corners of joy – differs and cannot be ‘touched’ or ‘experienced’ equally. Regardless of how abundant or scarce that happiness maybe, as long as everyone preserves and nurtures their own little moments of happiness under the Mickey Mouse hat, that happiness will always stay with us.
