#Unboxing365 The photograph of 2 July and World UFO Day

2 July is celebrated as World UFO Day every year. Earlier, the day was celebrated on 24 June as per aviator Kenneth Arnold, nine unusual objects reportedly flew over Washington in 1947 on that day. He described them as “saucer-like” or “a big flat disk” which has now become the symbol of imagined alien spacecraft.

Later, 2 July was officially declared as World UFO Day to commemorate the supposed UFO crash incident in Roswell New Mexico in 1947. On July 2, 1947, William Brazel, a ranch foreman, noticed clusters of debris on his ranch and he described it as a “large area of bright wreckage made up of rubber strips, tinfoil, a rather tough paper and sticks”. The US army, however, recovered the debris and stated that the wreckage was that of a weather balloon. On the other hand, many people called it a ‘cover-up’ which then sparked endless conspiracy theories. This incident also paved the way for Hollywood movies on extraterrestrial encounters in the 1950s until now. Even now, after more than 70 years, the incident remains a defining aspect of Roswell’s identity. The area covering the ranch from where the US army recovered a “flying disc”, now has a UFO museum and research centre.

To celebrate World UFO Day, die-hard UFO believers will gather together around the world in places that are considered to be UFO hotspots like in Roswell, New Mexico. Some hold UFO-themed parties and dress up as aliens, while others watch movies based on extraterrestrial life. On the other hand, World UFO Day Organisation (WUFODO) dedicated July 2 as a celebration of the day in order to raise awareness about “the existence of UFOs and with that intelligent being from outer space” and it aimed to encourage governments to declassify files on supposed UFO sightings.

It’s up to you to decide whether UFO is real. Look up at the sky and maybe one day you will find mysterious flying objects.
