365°

Through photography, light-box installations and video, 365° explores in moments in history and the influences of art, current affairs, politics, disasters, mankind’s achievements and more. Events such as the 9/11 attack on New York’s World Trade Centre, highlights of the life of the United Kingdom’s Queen Elizabeth II, the premiere screening of the movie, Star Wars, the creative works of some of the world’s most loved artists: Banksy, Edward Hopper, Salvador Dali, René Magritte, Mondrian and Van Gogh.

365° is Spanish fashion photographer and artist, Eugenio Recuenco’s most ambitious project to date. The exhibition name, ‘365°’ (365 degrees) refers to Recuenco’s thoughts about the world and travel. It is a humorous, sometimes cynical, often optimistic view of the world. Eight years in the making, 120 models and a production team of 300 staff worked on the exhibition which has been shown in Barcelona, Madrid, London, Valencia, Shanghai and Taipei and in May, Bangkok. 365° is a photographic journey following 50 years of civilisation.

With this exhibition, Recuenco encourages visitors to think more deeply about the events shown in his photographs.

About the Artist

Eugenio Recuenco was born in Madrid, Spain in May 1968. His interest for the arts was evident as a child, so nobody was surprised when he registered in the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University of Madrid, where he later achieved a BBAA with a major in Painting.

Starting out, Recuenco created in large format paintings in which he included pictures of his own. In his own words: “…as I could not find a public interested in four-metre-wide canvases, I focused on photography.” This led him to collaborate with the leading Spanish and International fashion magazines such Vogue, Madame Figaro, Vanity Fair, GQ, Marie Claire, and Zink.

Working in the advertising and fashion industries in Paris, Recuenco’s first assignment was with Boucheron, but he was subsequently hired by the most prestigious brands: Loewe, Nina Ricci, Diesel, Shanghai Tang, Yves Saint Laurent, Playstation, Naf Naf, Mango and Pernod Ricard.

In 2007, Recuenco was asked to work with Eric Dover on the set design for the New York premier of the opera, “The Huguenots”.

In 2008, for his short film for Loewe, titled “The Essence of Seduction”, Recuenco gained recognition in Spain where it was awarded best advertisement of the year, while in the Mexico City International Film Festival, it was selected as the best in short film category.

Eugenio Recuenco currently lives behind a camera.
