The Impressionists: Four Cool Spots to Check In
The Impressionists multimedia is now showing and in pursuit of our promise, we are sure you will find it informative, inspiring, entertaining and extremely Instagramable.
Boulevards of Paris
Your first stop will land you on the streets of Paris in the 19th century with it’s ornate lampposts found across the city, tree-lined boulevards, horse and carriage transport, and elegant Parisians promenading as they were, and still are, so fond of doing on a weekend afternoon. All add to the romance of Paris during the Impressionism period.
ParisianCafé
Take some respite a typical Paris café with its bistro chairs and table on the street and bustling with patrons inside. When travelling to France, it’s absolutely the thing to do. This cafe however, is particularly important. Café Guerbois was the meeting point of avant-garde artists who rejected the norms designated by Academie des Beaux-Arts (Academy of Fine Arts). The rebels, called The Batignolles Group, exchanged ideas and planned their own exhibitions. Sit and take a selfie of the Café Guerbois and become part of Impressionism history.
Impression, Sunrise
In the Hall of Fame next to the Cafe, you will be surrounded by one masterpiece of each of our ten Impressionist artists. Accompanying the painting is a snapshot of information about each artist. Don’t miss checking out a reproduction of ‘Impression, Sunrise’ (1872) by Claude Monet – the painting that gave its name to the Impressionism movement. The original painting is on display at Musée Marmottant Monet located in the 16th district of Paris along with a large compilation of Monet’s paintings.
La Grenouillère – the frog pond
Walking through the immersion room of light and sound, you will come across a recreation of La Grenouillère or The Frog Pond. The pond is an artificial island on the Seine river. During the Impressionism period, there was a floating restaurant. In 1869 it was a popular meeting spot for Renoir and Monet. They painted the same subject from different perspectives. Renoir painted ‘La Grenouillère’ and ‘Bain à la Grenouillère’ is Renoir’s work.
