Van Gogh: Life and Art
River City Bangkok presents the multimedia exhibition about one of the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art – Vincent Van Gogh: “Van Gogh: Life and Art” at the Museum of Digital Art Bangkok (MODA) coming in June 2020.
Vincent Van Gogh was the Dutch post-impressionist painter who lived and worked at the end of the 19th century. In just 10 years, he created 930 paintings, 1,100 drawings and sketches. During his lifetime, Van Gogh’s work never gained recognition. He sold only a few paintings and died in poverty and obscurity. Today Van Gogh is one of the most famous and recognizable artists in the world. Even those people who know nothing about fine arts can identify his works. Van Gogh’s paintings are traditionally the most expensive and coveted lots at any auction.
His paintings can be found in numerous galleries and private collections all over the world, including the Netherlands, France, America, and Russia. To show them in one place at one time would be an impossible challenge. Only a digital multimedia exhibition is capable of this. The immersive exhibition, “Van Gogh. Life and Art” invites the visitors to become acquainted with the story of this master’s life through an almost exhaustive presentation of his paintings. From his first naïve charcoal sketches to his very last oil masterpiece. Huge screens draw in the visitor into each of his paintings, enabling us to appreciate the dramatic strokes for which Van Gogh is famous in great detail. The exhibition also contains Van Gogh epistolary oeuvre (letters from the artist): quotes about his life and paintings from letters to his brother Theo. These letters help us understand the world in which Van Gogh found himself.
“Van Gogh. Life and Art” has been shown in eight cities, including Berlin, Moscow and St. Petersburg. Millions of people have immersed themselves in the combined beauty of Van Gogh’s masterpieces and some of the great musical compositions of our time. For the first time in Bangkok, “Van Gogh. Life and Art” opens today until 31 December 2020 at MODA Gallery, 2nd floor River City Bangkok.
